What is Meftal Spas Used For?
Meftal spas is a combination drug of Dicyclomine hydrochloride and Mefenamic acid, the active ingredients that is available in different strengths depending on the required dosage or severity.
Dicyclomine Hydrochloride
It is an anticholinergic that mainly relieves muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract.
It does so by blocking the activity of a certain natural substance in the body like inhibiting the action of bradykinin and histamine. As a result, it directs action on the smooth muscle- decreasing strength of contractions and thus reducing spasms.
The effects of the drug are not long-lasting and thus, each recommended daily dosage is divided and taken 3-4 times a day.
Mefenamic Acid
It is an anti-inflammatory painkiller which is also called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and is used to treat mild to moderate pain.
It is very suitable for treating painful conditions such as arthritis, pain associated with heavy menstrual bleeding, and after surgical procedures.
Mefenamic acid works by blocking the effect of natural chemicals of the body which in turn reduces the production of prostaglandins, a chemical that causes the sensation of pain and inflammation during times of injury.
Common Dosage
Dicyclomine hydrochloride 10 mg and mefenamic acid 250 mg.
Dicyclomine hydrochloride 20 mg and mefenamic acid 500 mg.
Meftal Spas Uses
They are used to treat the following:
1) Menstrual period cramps and bloating
Period pain or cramps are also known as dysmenorrhea. Meftal Spas is usually used to treat primary dysmenorrhoea by relieving symptoms like Excessive menstrual pain or cramping, discomfort in the lower back and abdomen, bloating, etc.
2) Heavy bleeding during periods
It helps in controlling the excessive blood loss during a period for women who usually bleed excessively during their periods.
3) Muscle pain
Tensed muscles or overworked can lead to cramping and cause pain. This medication helps reduce pain and muscle spasm.
4) Stomach and abdominal pain
It helps soothe any discomfort in the stomach or abdomen, no matter the cause of disease. Thus, it is an effective painkiller in general.
5) Irritable bowel syndrome
It is a disorder in the intestine that usually causes pain, discomfort in the abdominal region, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, etc. However, the meftal spas will only effectively treat any discomfort and pain.
