Are there any Indian Government Schemes to Help a Child Develop?

There are numerous integrated child development schemes launched by the Government of India. Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in India is considered to be the world’s largest integrated early childhood programme. These programmes aim to improve the health, nutrition, education and development of the children. It also offers education to mothers on nutrition, hygiene, non-formal pre-school education that can be offered to children aged 3-6.

These schemes have proven to be helpful in reducing female feticide and infanticide rates while also ensuring that girl children become more independent once they reach adulthood. Some of these schemes include:

This scheme was launched as a part of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. It is a saving scheme for the benefit of the girl child which encourages parents to build a fund. These funds in future can help meet the expenditure for the education and marriage of their girl child.

Some other similar integrated child development services include Mukhya Mantri Rajshri Yojana. Mukhya mantri Laadli Yojana, Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree scheme.
