Meftal Spas During Periods: Does It Help?

Meftal spas is an antispasmodic drug which is a painkiller and a muscle relaxant. Thus, it is used to treat intestinal problems in your stomach as well as decrease symptoms like intestinal and stomach cramping.

There are two types of menstrual pain:

  1. Primary dysmenorrhea is the usual or recurrent pain during menstruation.

  2. Secondary dysmenorrhea is the pain caused by the result of some reproductive system disorder.

Antispasmodic Function

Meftal spas is a combination medicine of mefenamic acid and dicyclomine. The combination of such medications work together and relaxes the muscles of the stomach and small intestine which consequently slows down the natural movement of the gut.

Mefenamic acid

It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that helps in decreasing the levels of hormones which cause pain, blood loss, inflammation, and menstrual cramps by stopping or blocking any release or reaction of any substances that produce such symptoms.

Mefenamic acid dose: 500mg once a day. Usually, 250mg is taken twice a day.

Dicyclomine

It is an anticholinergic as well as an antispasmodic drug that is capable of blocking acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter chemical that is responsible for a muscle to contract. Thus, reducing or blocking such reactions or chemicals will help relieve spasms.

Dicyclomine dosage: 20mg four times a day.
